Leading telecom company, SingTel on Sunday launched a new service in Singapore which will enable the mobile users to download music files and videos from the web. The new web-based facility called AMPed has been launched by the telecom company in collaboration with Universal Music. The music service for mobile phones was launched at a media event attended by American pop star Lady Gaga.
According to SingTel CEO in Singapore, Allen Lew, the telecom company has planned the initiative about two years to enhance its service capabilities. He informed that in Singapore about 50 percent of the mobile users love to listen music and SingTel has introduced the new initiative to provide the users with information as well as entertainment. The new web-based music service will not only attract new customers but will also enable the existing ones to fulfill their entertainment needs.
SingTel is the largest telecom company in Southeast Asia and owns stakes in mobile phone companies of India, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The company also owns Australia's second largest telecom firm, Optus. SingTel offers a web-based pay TV service in Singapore and lifestyle Internet portals. Both SingTel and Universal Music are considering to launch AMPed service in other parts Asia. The AMPed works with 3G handsets from Nokia, Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson.
